The tools, search engine, and browser that billions of people use every day today to encourage people to unleash the joy of discovery, feel the wonder of creation, and make better use of the world’s knowledge.
Today, a completely new AI-powered bing The search engine and the Edge browser are currently available in preview at: bing.com, to offer better search, more complete answers, a new chat experience and the ability to create content. We think of these tools as AI co-pilots for the web.
“Artificial intelligence will fundamentally change every software category, starting with the largest category, search,” said Satya Nadella, Microsoft President and CEO. “Today we’re rolling out Bing and Edge, powered by AI co-pilot and chat, to help people get more out of search and the web.”
10 billion search queries are made per day, but we estimate that half of them go unanswered. This is because people use search to do things they weren’t originally designed to do. It’s great for finding a website, but often falls short for more complex questions or tasks.
New Bing and Edge – your co-pilot for the web
We’ve combined search, browsing and chat into a unified experience that you can call from anywhere on the web, providing:
- Better search. The new Bing gives you an enhanced version of the familiar search experience by providing more relevant results for simple things like sports scores, stock quotes and weather, and a new sidebar that shows more comprehensive answers if you want.
- Complete the answers. Bing reviews results across the web to find and summarize the answer you’re looking for. For example, you can get detailed instructions on how to substitute an egg for another ingredient in a cake you’re baking right now, without scrolling through multiple results.
- A new chat experience. For more complex searches like planning a detailed itinerary or researching which TV to buy, the new Bing offers new, interactive chat. The chat experience allows you to refine your search until you get the exact answer you’re looking for by asking for more detail, clarity and insight – with available connections you can take immediate action based on your decisions.
- A creative spark. There are times when you need more than an answer – you need inspiration. The new Bing can create content to help you. It can help you write an email, create a 5-day itinerary for a dream vacation to Hawaii, book travel and accommodation, prepare for a job interview or create a quiz for trivia night. The new Bing also references all of its sources so you can see links to the web content it references.
- The new Microsoft Edge experience. We’ve updated the Edge browser with new AI features and a new look, and added two new functions: Chat and create. With the Sidebar, you can request a summary of a long financial report to get key takeaways, and then use the chat function to request a comparison with a competitor’s financial statements and automatically put that into a statement. You can also ask Edge to help you create content, such as a LinkedIn post, by giving a few commands to get you started. After that, you can ask him to help you update the tone, format, and length of the post. Edge can understand the web page you are on and adapt accordingly.
With the new Bing, exploring the web is not only easier, it’s also more fun. Ask him things like:
My anniversary is approaching in September, help me plan a trip to a fun place in Europe. He is leaving London.
Will Ikea Klippan double seat fit in my 2019 Honda Odyssey?
I love electronic music and want to go to my first festival this year. Do you have any suggestions or tips for me?
Reinventing search with AI
The new Bing experience is the culmination of four technical breakthroughs:
- Next generation OpenAI model. We are excited to announce that the new Bing is working on a new, next-generation OpenAI major language model that is more powerful than ChatGPT and specifically customized for search. It takes significant learnings and advancements from ChatGPT and GPT-3.5 and is even faster, more accurate and more capable.
- Microsoft Prometheus model. We’ve developed a proprietary way of working with the OpenAI model that allows us to make the most of its power. We call this collection of abilities and techniques the Prometheus model. This combination gives you more relevant, timely and targeted results along with enhanced security.
- Applying AI to the underlying search algorithm. We’ve also applied the AI model to our core Bing search ranking engine, which has led to the biggest jump in relevance in the last two decades. With this AI model, even basic search queries are more accurate and relevant.
- New user experience. We’re redesigning how you interact with search, browser, and chat by pulling them into a unified experience. This will unlock a whole new way of interacting with the web.
These groundbreaking new search experiences are possible because Microsoft is committed to transforming Azure into an AI supercomputer for the world, and OpenAI is using this infrastructure to train groundbreaking models currently being optimized for Bing.
Microsoft and OpenAI – innovating together, responsibly
Along with OpenAI, we are also committed to implementing defensive measures against harmful content. Our teams work in line with our policies to address issues such as misinformation and disinformation, content blocking, data security, and to prevent the promotion of harmful or discriminatory content. artificial intelligence principles.
The work we do with OpenAI builds on our company’s years of efforts to ensure that our AI systems are responsible for design. We will continue to use the full power of our responsible AI ecosystem, including researchers, engineers and policy experts, to develop new approaches to mitigating risk.
